Experience a unique view of the Footwhistle Cave with a sunset Glowworm tour. Prepare to be amazed as you witness the transition as day gives way to night and the forest and entrance comes alive with Glowworms.

This is the jewel in our crown! Your tour begins with a 3.5km courtesy scenic shuttle to our cave while your experienced guide reveals the rich history of Waitomo. Then, take a short walk through breath taking New Zealand native bush to the cave entrance, learning about the Caveworld conservation efforts. If you’re lucky, as dusk approaches we will be able to introduce you to a number of native bird species living on our land.

At the cave entrance the scene is set for an intimate cave experience. The solar powered lights are kept low so you can appreciate the magnificent glow worm displays at their best, only inches away. Around a corner lie the bones of one of New Zealand’s lost treasures, the ancient Moa. You will learn about and see cave formations up close and appreciate the beauty of Footwhistle Cave (also known to local Maori as Te Anaroa Cave). The soothing sound of Footwhistle cave stream flows in the darkness below.

The light will have changed by the time you exit the cave and as you immerse yourself in the Glowworms you will see why this is often described as a must-do for every New Zealand experience.

The sunset tour is a truly unique experience not to be missed. Complete the tour by enjoying a complimentary Kawa Kawa tea whilst you relax in our ponga hut nestled in native forest and surrounds. The tour leaves every day just before dusk and numbers are strictly limited so book now to avoid disappointment.

NOTE: Children age 5-17 years. Infants ages 0-4 years of age are not permitted. Please note proof of age will be requested if you appear to be 18 years or over upon checking in. Failure to provide proof of age will result in additional charges.

We require a minimum of two people for this tour to depart. Please contact us upon making your booking as your tour may not depart due to minimum participant requirements.

Full refunds will be given less a 10% online cancellation booking fee provided cancellations are made 24 hours in advance. No refunds will be given for cancellations made without 24 hours notification of cancellation prior to tour departure.
